Lumbosciatica, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other Peripheral Nerve Diseases

Care area

Why choose the Mondino Foundation?

The Mondino Foundation was the first in Italy to introduce the Clinical Electromyography diagnostic method, which contributed to the improvement and innovation of electrodiagnostic techniques over time. At the Mondino Foundation, it is possible to carry out both ‘routine’ investigations, such as electroneurography and electromyography, and ‘special’ investigations, such as radiculo-plexic stimulation, study of special nerves and muscles, neurovegetative study (e.g. tilt test) and quantitative sensory testing (QST) for suspected small-fiber neuropathy and neuropathic pain. These diagnostic investigations require high levels of expertise, which is essential for correctly diagnosing nerve and other neuromuscular diseases.

Pathologies and treatment

  • Acute and chronic radiculopathies (lumbosciatica, lumbocruralgia, cervicobrachialgia)
  • Carpal tunnel
  • Peripheral nerve entrapment syndromes (carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve compression at the elbow, Guyon syndrome, peroneal nerve compression at the knee, tarsal tunnel syndrome)
  • Mononeuropathies of post-traumatic or other aetiology, including from special nerve involvement (e.g. respiratory disorders from phrenic or recurrent nerve injury, winged scapula from long thoracic nerve injury)
  • Plexopathies (cervical, brachial, lumbosacral) of different aetiology (e.g. traumatic, iatrogenic, post-actinic, infiltrative or compressive)
  • Pudendal neuralgia (cause of chronic pelvic pain)
  • Polyneuropathies of different aetiology (diabetic, from drugs e.g. chemotherapy, of disimmune origin such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy or CIDP)
  • Multiple mononeuropathies of different aetiology (e.g. vasculitic)
  • Small-fiber neuropathy
  • Neuropathic pain
  • Targeted pharmacological treatments
  • Non-pharmacological treatments (orthoses, indication for surgery, non-invasive brain stimulation by TMS or tDCS)
  • Surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome

Management and Care

  • Visita neurologica o neurochirugica
  • Elettromiografia per la formulazione della diagnosi
  • Intervento chirurgico
  • Fisioterapia
