Pathologies treated
Neurorehabilitation is aimed at people who have suffered injuries or dysfunctions in the central nervous system, to help them recover or improve their motor, cognitive and functional abilities. Conditions treated by neurorehabilitation can include:
- Cerebral stroke (ischemic or hemorrhagic): the goal is to help people recover functions compromised following acute cerebrovascular diseases.
- Movement disorders: Parkinson's disease and other parkinsonisms.
- Neuromuscular disorders: The focus is on patients with neuromuscular disorders such as myopathies, myasthenia gravis, polyneuropathies or motor neuron diseases.
- Inflammatory diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy-CIDP.
- Cognitive and language disorders with a primary degenerative basis or secondary to another neurological pathology (primary progressive aphasia).
- Head trauma: focus on people who have suffered head trauma to support them in recovering motor, cognitive or communicative functions.
- Spinal cord injuries: These are injuries to the spinal cord that can cause mobility problems and other challenges, which can be addressed with neurorehabilitation.
- Coma: patients with impaired consciousness and alertness can receive care at our facility, which has extensive experience in the multidisciplinary management of these complex cases, combining rehabilitation expertise with diagnostic and support skills.
Neurorehabilitation approaches can include physical, occupational, speech, psychological, and other interventions aimed at promoting recovery of impaired function, managing associated symptoms, and overall improving the quality of life of people with neurological conditions. Managment and care
Taking care of the neurological patient involves the clinical and functional classification by the specialist doctor who, in concert with all the rehabilitation technicians, will plan the rehabilitation process through the Individual Rehabilitation Project (PRI) and the individual rehabilitation program ( pri ) , with a multidisciplinary approach aimed at the needs of each patient. The PRI aims to identify the rehabilitation objectives, the expected times, the actions and conditions necessary to achieve the outcomes, constituting the basis for the identification of the individual rehabilitation program. Management includes an assessment: neurological, functional, physiotherapeutic, speech therapy (in the presence of speech, phonation or swallowing disorders), neuropsychological in the presence of cognitive disorders (e.g. comprehension, attention, memory), by the occupational therapist and psychologist, with possible fundamental psychological support to deal with the disability condition and carry out the rehabilitation process, as well as the treatment of possible associated mood disorders (for example, depressive syndrome).
Treatment can be accessed on an inpatient or outpatient basis .
Access to hospital admission occurs mainly as a transfer from acute inpatient departments and is direct, requiring reporting to the Head Nurse of Neurorehabilitation using specific forms.
Neurorehabilitation offers specialised care to people with stroke, neurodegenerative or demyelinating diseases, traumatic brain injuries or other neurological pathologies that require intensive treatment and daily monitoring of the clinical picture.
Services in a hospital include:
- Initial multidisciplinary medical evaluation
- Definition of the individual rehabilitation project and the individual rehabilitation program
- Multidisciplinary treatment
- Periodic interviews to evaluate the patient's recovery and update rehabilitation objectives
- Continuous assistance, medical monitoring and therapeutic support 24/7 during hospitalisation
- The discharge agreed with the patient and caregiver
The Mondino Foundation offers outpatient neurorehabilitation treatment for stable patients who do not require intensive hospital monitoring by the general practitioner or other specialists. Outpatient rehabilitation takes place with a multidisciplinary approach. Patients with highly complex disabilities who need to be taken care of by two or more members of the rehabilitation team fall under the macro outpatient activity (MAC), during which the person will carry out treatment sessions with multiple operators on the same day.
In addition to the well-known areas of excellence in neurogenic dysphagia, motor and cognitive recovery of extrapyramidal diseases, spasticity management, post-stroke recovery and speech disorders, thanks to consolidated experience, the team also offers the possibility of functional and motor rehabilitation also in the following pathologies and comorbidities:

- Peripheral neurological disorders: radicular impingement, compression of plexuses and nerves, thoracic outlet syndrome
- Dizziness and vertigo syndromes

The option of TELERIABILITATION is also available. Telerehabilitation is a neurological rehabilitation path that can be carried out at home, with continued contact with healthcare professionals. An interactive and dynamic guidance and control tool offers a practical solution that is effective and convenient for patients and healthcare workers. Telemedicine represents an excellent tool for patients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease or stroke outcomes.
