Cognitive Psychology

Description

The Cognitive Psychology Section works in close collaboration with the Dementia Unit, headed by Prof. Cappa, and the Headache and Neurorehabilitation Unit, headed by Prof. Tassorelli. This collaboration's primary objective is the in-depth study and understanding of the many facets of cognitive psychology in neurological pathologies.

The main research areas span several frontiers, guided by a multidisciplinary and innovation-oriented perspective. In particular, the Section is dedicated to the assessment of the cognitive functioning profile for the differential diagnosis between normal and pathological ageing and the quantification of the level of impairment, examining the role of lifestyle, social-cognitive functioning and social vulnerability in individuals with cognitive impairment and dementia risk, as well as to the implementation of cognitive rehabilitation interventions using state-of-the-art methodologies, such as telerehabilitation and neurostimulation in these populations.

Another area of research focuses on investigating cognitive and emotional processes. This involves identifying psychological predictors of clinical outcomes and evaluating the effects of innovative cognitive-behavioural interventions implemented through virtual reality in chronic pain and headaches. A further objective of the Section is to integrate and foster collaboration with the services operating within the University of Pavia. It aims to consolidate research networks and foster a dynamic sharing of knowledge and resources, further enhancing the research's scope and impact.
