Introduction
From the beginning and for the rest of their lives, humans experience relationships. Early relationships are critical to individual development, and while past research has focused primarily on the dyadic relationship between mother and child, recent changes in society have prompted scholars to broaden the focus and investigate relationships in the family triad (mother-father-child). In fact, the family is the first and most significant relational context of the individual and plays a regulatory, educational and socializing role in society.
Therefore, when a family member suffers from a medical condition, the entire family needs to reorganize to care for him or her and plays an important role in the patient’s life and outcome. In addition, research is increasingly addressing the impact that the condition that afflicts a family member has on parents and even on siblings.
Research in the past has focused on the negative influence family members can have on a patient’s health, etiology of the condition, and maintenance of the condition, whereas now family relationships are seen as a resource for treating the patient and fostering a good outcome. In this workshop, we will reflect on family relationships and dynamics in typical and atypical care settings, as well as the repercussions of pathology on the other family members.
Main objectives of the event:
knowledge of family dynamics;
knowledge of coparenting mechanisms;
knowledge of intervention on families.
